By iancr

Congrats to our friends in Spinnerette for their first independent digital release, the amazing Ghetto Love EP, featuring four songs and a video by acclaimed director Liam Lynch for $5. For those who didn’t see our earlier Spinnerette post, Spinnerette is Brody and Tony from The Distillers, along with a cast of characters including producer Alain Johannes. Buy the EP on SpinneretteMusic.com.

Here’s the video, please stick this on your blog, MySpace page, whateva:

If you add the video to your site, please take a screen shot and upload it to this Flickr pool.

Wendy and Lisa

Also released this week is the new album from Wendy and Lisa. You might remember Wendy and Lisa from Prince’s Revolution or more recently from the soundtrack to the TV show Heroes, but their new album stands on its own. Listen to the album and purchase the colored vinyl here!

Also launching this week, new music from former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf de Maur, and the re-release of Seven Mary Three’s long out-of-print debut album, Churn.

Congrats on the self-sufficiency!

Fun With Byrne and Eno

By iancr

Happy weekend,

The release of David Byrne and Brian Eno’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today has gone incredibly well, our servers handled the load splendidly and we’ve delivered many terabytes of MP3s and FLAC files around the world since the album’s release August 18th. You can see exactly where around the world the downloads were coming from in this mesmerizing video created by Eric:

I love watching the world fall asleep and then wake up, right to left. View the video on David Byrne’s site here.

I was also pleased to see us collect nearly 100 snapshots of the album embedded in sites and blogs all over the Internet. IMHO, this is how simple it should be to sample the music from and purchase an album directly from an artist.

If you’d like to post the album on your site or blog simply head over to EverythingThatHappens.com, click “Embed/Share”, copy the embed code, and paste into your site, MySpace page, etc. Then grab a screen shot and add it to the Flickr pool. Thanks!

Congrats to David and Brian for the critical acclaim. This is one of my favorite reviews, and I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a “double buy it!” from the Sound Opinions guys. I’ve been saying for years that “quality is hyper-efficient” in the Media 2.0 world (actually I stole that from Umair) and we’re very fortunate to have been involved with what I consider to be one of the best albums of the year.

Topspin was lucky to find Jim Bumgardner itching to join our fighting force of extraordinary magnitude and in his first couple of days on the job he created this mosaic of David and Brian from the cover of the album. Welcome, Jim!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend,

ps - (unrelated to David Byrne and Brian Eno) If you’re waking up late from last night’s midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, jump over and grab the sampler from the new Repo! The Genetic Opera movie, released by Lionsgate this coming November, available via the movie’s Web site now.

NIN’s “The Slip” Downloads Visualized in Google Earth

By iancr

nin-downloads-us

As we mentioned in last Friday’s post, we helped out a bit on downloads for Nine Inch Nails’ The Slip. We didn’t do much, simply hosted the file on our CDN for the first month or so (NIN has since taken this over themselves). But that did give some interesting data to play with, and our research scientist Eric Gottschalk mapped the data against the Google Earth API for a killer visualization of where NIN fans were located on the planet.

We sent this off to Trent for his enjoyment. Trent had Craig Johnston of Sudjam (the team that helps with NIN.com) run with the idea, make it pretty, and shared the result with his fans. Right on. Click here to Digg Trent’s post so the world sees it.

Thanks again, Trent. It’s a pleasure to have been involved in even the smallest of ways. Thanks for blazing the trail.
